The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany is a large castle located in the city of Nantes on the banks of the River Loire. It was the residence of the Dukes of Brittany between the 13th and 16th centuries, subsequently becoming the Breton residence of the French Monarchy. The castle has been listed as a historical monument by the French Ministry of Culture since 1840. Today the castle houses the Nantes History Museum.

Enter the courtyard across a drawbridge over the former castle moot, and the inner courtyard reveals an elegant 15th-century ducal residence and other buildings dating back from the 15th and 18th centuries. A visit to the Nantes History Museum is a great place to get an understanding of the history of Nantes, from the Breton Duchy up to WWII.
